Alternative Processes through Digital Means

Daguerreotypes

To make this daguerreotype I used a picture of a bouquet and edited it to have a sepia tint to it. I changed the curves so it looked slightly metallic and used a concrete wall overlay. I added a tin metal frame and erased the original photo and faded the texture out.

Cyanotype

To make this cyanotype, I made the photo black and white and then added a blue tint to it. I adjusted the colors and added a slight blur to the photo. Then, I painted a new layer white and used a brush to make the white gradually fade into my photo.

Gum Bichromate

For my gum bichromate I took the same steps I did for my cyanotype, however I painted on multiple colors. I also added a watercolor texture over the photo. I used yellows, pinks, and blues instead of just having a blue tint.

Multiple Image Techniques

Panorama

I took this photograph of downtown Portland from a friend's porch. It was a nice sunny day so I was able to capture both Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Hood in the photo. I overlapped the photos I took and merged them together using Lightroom and Photoshop. I edited the top one so the city had more of a happy feel to it because of the blue skies and bright colors. I edited the bottom one to show the other side of Portland which is grey and rainy. It has a grey, almost purple tint to it.

Multiple Exposure

For this multiple exposure I used a picture I took on a hike to punchbowl over the weekend when it was sunny and I used a picture of a fence looking over the city. I liked it in black and white because the colors were difficult to edit so they complemented each other. I chose to put these together because of the contrast of the nature with the city.

I blended these together and I liked how they both were places in downtown Portland. I added the red tint to connect the two photos better.

I used old photos for this multiple exposure because I liked the way it has the Portland sign in the background which is normally lit up and fancy, however in the other photo I merged, it shows a homeless man.

For this multiple exposure I blended a photo of my friend standing on a bridge and a photo of the city. I liked how she was just kind of looking over the railing and I edited it to have ind of a peaceful mood.

High Dynamic Range

For this photo I blended three photos together and in the first one, the leaf was really under exposed and the second one was overexposed. I enhanced the colors because I really liked the different green colors in the photo.

Balance and Contrasts

Diptychs

Fences

I connected these two photos so they lined up and brought out the green in the left hand photo and the pink in the other in order to show a contrast in colors. The two photos are cohesive when put together despite being two different photos.

The Differences in Humans

I took these two photos on the same wall to make it cohesive, but chose these subjects to demonstrate opposites.

Fall

These two photos show the colors of fall. One is a fill the frame technique of bark, and the other is zoomed out of the same tree. The colors of the bark are transferred over onto the bark.

Cora

I took these photos on a bridge after my friend Cora and I had finished shopping and getting coffee. She is always smiling and so I tried to show her in just three photos.

Jessie the Dog

I took these while getting my Christmas tree. Jessie, a dog at the farm, followed my family begging us to play fetch. From left to right, this triptych is a cycle beginning when Jessie prepared for one of us to throw it, to her bringing it back, then back to her begging again.
